Hello there D.M.-azing D365 Community!
There might be some of us who are already aware of the new feature released for 10.0.26 version for Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations under Fixed asset module.
To our D.M.-azing D365 Community who have not tried or explored yet this new addition, let me share what I have learned about this new field – Migrated asset.
As discussed by Microsoft, Migrated asset button once enabled will prevent the Placed in service be altered after posting the acquisition transactions. This is more applicable for Fixed assets which are migrated from legacy system.

Path: Fixed assets > Fixed assets > Fixed assets > Select a Fixed asset > Books > General tab > Migrated asset
Here are some of the scenario as to the effect of turning on or off Migrated asset button.
When migrated asset button is turned ON – after posting for the acquisition journal, the Placed in service button will not be altered. When there is a date assigned during import for Placed in service, that date will remain the same after posting the journal.

When migrated asset button is turned OFF – after posting for the acquisition journal, the Placed in service button will be changed. When there is a date assigned during import for Placed in service, the date assigned will change based on the transaction date.

Now, what’s the importance of having this new feature?
Placed in service field is the basis on how the maintained depreciation convention will compute for the depreciation amount. If this will change without us consciously knowing it, there is a probability that our depreciation calculation will not be correct thus affecting not only the depreciation record but also the net book value and the other transactions related to the Fixed asset.
That’s it for now. I hope that you find this article as a helpful tool for you to better appreciate and understand, everything and anything, about Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations.
It will truly be a privilege if you will allow me to know your thoughts and suggestions for me to further improve the coming featured articles on our blog. ‘Til next time!
