Dynamics CE - OOB Contact Lookup field not showing data in any view

Hello all, 
 
I'm encountering a strange issue where the default Contact field on the Opportunity record isn't showing any data despite whatever view I use - including all contacts.
 
I have confirmed that there is no filtering on this field:
 
Out of curiosity, I added a new custom field called "Primary Contact" with the same relationship to the Contact entity and that lookup seems to work fine.
 
I'd rather not use a custom field if I can avoid it as I feel like the OOB field should be adequate.
 
Has anyone else encountered this?
Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
