Sales and profitability performance with sales category hierarchy

Hello,

We're considering newly implementing Sales and profitability performance to provide better analysis on sales result to the sales team.

And I'm particularly interested in how we can offer analysis based on hierarchical sales category by drilling up and down between the levels of the hierarchy with which sold items are associated.

The blogpost below offers some screenshots but the sample data does not seem to have a certain category hierarchy defined and it shows only "Blank".

Is there any example screenshot or material to help me understand how "Revenue by product" report page works with hierarchical analysis?

    thats one of the main slicers so you should be safe to build on the out of the box

    Understood that there's no better way than giving it a try in our Dev environment.

    And at least it's good to know that SLAES CATEGORIES should work as I expect.

    best way is to get your feet wet (and maybe your face too) if you go to LCS and shared asset library (not in your project) you will notice under BI where you can download that sales report to your local Dev VM (cloud hosted or on premise). After you have downloaded this to your dev vm then go to D365 > Sysadmin > setup > Entity Store (or type it in the search in D365) and you can then setup the sales cube by clicking edit, then set the refresh to something like 1 per month, then click refresh.

    the data is then pushed into your local SQL AxDW database and if you then open the sales cube you will notice it connects and fully displays the report and data model (you can separate these)

    every client i go out and push almost all of these entity store cubes out to the AxDW, download all the power bi dashboards and open them up and start displaying them and modifying them.

    That particular report has INVOICE LINES, PRODUCTS and SALES CATEGORIES with some great measures for gross margin, gross margin current year and gross margin last year same goes for revenue so the calcs are mostly done for you. SALES CATEGORIES is mostly used like slicer here (should be a slicer)

    Thank you for providing the sample. It helps my understanding quite a lot.

    Good to know that the Category hierarchies can be used as a analytical dimension in Power BI, as in your screnshot.

    In Cost management we also use the Category Hierarchies in the embedded Power BI. The Category Hierarchy and its nodes are simple functioning as a dimension at which the data can be sliced. This can be done in many ways in Power BI. Adding into the visual it self or made as a slicer in the picture I have added. Here the user in the control it self can drill up or down in hierarchy to see Inventory balance  

    Using these Category hierarchies are very powerful

    Thank you for sharing the links. Thanks to the article there I think I understand the basic concept of the reports.

    It would be more helpful if there is concrete example like how the profitability analysis works by drill down / drill up between sales category hierarchies.

    Actually I'm thinking that how the out-of-the box hierarchical analysis works will somewhat affect the initial design of sales category hierarchy in advance.

    If there are any of screenshots or videos for such scenario, it's better.

    Or do you think that we need to try and see by ourselves anyway?
