Can't workout the difference between subscription lists and marketing segments - what do I use?

I have read conflicting posts on what I should be using.

My use case is simple; I need to send out emails to customers in two groups: Those that have purchased a product and those that have cancelled a purchase. In either group, the Customer needs to be able to opt-out of any communication.

I have created Customer Journeys for both, and they both appear to do the same thing?

What should I be using Segments or Marketing lists?

I'll answer the question without giving you links to look at.

Segmentation give you access to more filtering options, organic behaviour like email clicks etc. Behind the scenes it uses two different engines - Subscription lists use CE and Segmentation uses Customer Insights. From experience, there are more functions available in segmentation than in Subscription lists.

    Hello Abe,

As Clofly mentioned, you should be able to find more details about segment and marketing lists here -

    Hi Abe,

You can find detailed comparison between segments vs. marketing lists in the article below:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/marketing/segments-vs-lists

Choose segment or marketing list based on your specific scenario.

    Clofly
