Cloud-hosted dev box no longer shows D365 extension in Visual Studio: how to reinstall please?
For anyone who finds this thread looking to use the extension in VS2022, I'm told there are a few options you need to include in the VS2022 install, namely the Visual studio extension development workload, because it has the Modeling SDK available:

Having installed VS2022 with those options, the service update can be downloaded from LCS, unzipped, and then two elements are needed from the DevToolsService\Scripts folder:
    1. The 17.0 VSIX installs the extension
    2. The two 17.0 Targets files must be copied to C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft\Dynamics\AX:

Given one of the VS2002 upgrade benefits is that it's now 64-bit, it feels unfortunate that there isn't a matching 64-bit MSBuild, but maybe in time...

Amused to note that the same day I posted the update, VS2022 support was announced. Having installed VS2022 Professional & re-run the VSIX, I've got the extension visible in VS2022, but it gives the 'VSCommonPackage' package did not load correctly. message when I try to use it. The activity log records Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.Modeling.Sdk.Shell: FusLogVw gives me a list of directories under the VS/2022/Professional/Common7/IDE where it looks, and there's an old discussion suggesting it was incorrectly absent in 2017, but that's not super helpful. Might have to provision a new dev VM & see whether it's installed there.

Thanks Andre. The installer log having "Version : [17.0" in the "Supported Products" section left me thinking it should be fine with VS2022, but having tried the installer.vsix without the number 17 in (somewhat annoyed I didn't register that possibility earlier!), I'm now back working on VS2019 as you suggest.

It isn't clear to me from the MS docs that VS2022 isn't supported, but I (now) appreciate you've said this on the forums before, so thanks for your patience & reiteration.

    Hi Rich,

Can you try using Visual Studio 2019? I believe the VM you are using had this version initially installed. VS2022 is not yet supported with the Dynamics 365 add-in for Visual Studio.
