Sync Project online with Project operations

Hello everyone,

We are trying to load historical data for one of our client and They have few projects with lots of Project Tasks in it. Dynamics 365 Project operation does not allow to import task directly so, We need some kind of way to load their task in the Project Operation module.

for this, we are thinking to first import them in MS Project online and then sync it with Project Operations.

Can you please help me understand how this can be achieved? In below screenshot, as you can see there is one project highlighted which is having 5 tasks and when I click on publishing it is not syncing with Project operation module.

The expected behaviour is we need some way to get those project task within Project Operations.

Please help me with your expertise.

Let me know if you require more information.

Thanks & Regards,
Harshil Shah

Hey all. I'll write a sticky to the top of the forum about this one at my earliest convenience as this is a frequently asked question. In short:

    • All projects launched from Project Home (the Office UI) open up either in Project for the web's Fluent UI React, the Project for the web model-driven app or Project Operations as follows:
      • Projects in default environment open in Fluent UI React.
      • Projects in a prod and sandbox environments open in the Project for the web model-driven app.
      • Project Operations projects open in the Project Operations model-driven app.
    • Import from .MPP is currently only available for vanilla Project for the web projects residing in default environment and the import is done from Project Home.
      • Stay tuned for importing to prod, sandbox and ProjOps.
    • Project Online projects reside in SharePoint. There is not OOTB way to sync POL to P4W or P4W to POL. Use the Scheduling APIs to accomplish this.

I'm trying to figure out same thing. PSA let you edit the project and updating tasks using a plugin on MS Project onpremise. You can see Projects from Projects Operations in MS Project Online, but when you click on it redirects to Project Operations app

This might be of interest it does not have a direct link but could work. I have not tested it.
Also it is from desktop Project.

    Hi Antti

Do you know of any details of how to test the scheduling API i.e. URL, authentication etc so I can test with a console APP?

    Thanks

Hi Harshil Shah. The only way to migrate data to Project Operations from Project Online or 3rd party systems is to use the schedule APIs, which are now in preview. This is a pro-code approach. The only alternative is to manually create the projects with tasks in ProjOps.

Schedulable tables (described in the docs article below) don't work like normal Dataverse tables do in the sense that data can't be ingested into Dataverse directly. The data must first go to the Project Scheduling Service, which then persists data to Datavese. Data import jobs can be accomplished with the schedule APIs by calling the necessary Web API Actions.
