Alternative way to move data from AX2012 to D356 during an upgrade

We are planning an upgrade from AX2012 to D365.

From the database perspective, it will be more like a "re-implementation" than upgrade, because we DON'T want to move all the data with the transactions.

In such scenario, is it correct that "Data entities" and "Data management framework" is the only possible way to move data?

While we don't want to move transactions, there is a bunch of entities (parameters, master, reference) that we want to migrate and moving them one-by-one using data entities will be very time consuming.

In other words, we are searching for a simpliest way to move almost all the data without the transactions to D365.

Is there any way to use data packages to just "partly" upgrade the database? Or some other tools that could reduce the time for such data migration?

I would not recommend using SysDatabaseTransDelete in your prod system and that's definetely not a supported way of doing a "partial data upgrade".

    Hi,

We didn't find a better solution than just moving everything entity-by-entity, as it was suggested in this thread.

Good thing that all needed entities already existed in D365, so it saved us some of that time.

While searching for the best solution, I was given an idea to do a regular database upgrade and then simply delete all the transactions using standard SysDatabaseTransDelete class, but I believe such option would be very risky to take and could cause a lot of issues :)

It would be interesting to hear what other members think of this.

    Hi Victor , team

Do we have answer for this , i have same situation of need to upgrade all Entities and module setup, groups and master data because we have 100+ of entities and many modules (so to do manually very big efforts required  ) but don't need to upgrade the transaction data

    Hi Victor,

What exact migration do you have in mind? Do you want to move all setup, groups and master data or do you want to reconfigure and move only master data and opening balances?

Data entities are the only way to move data in the system, if you don't want to do full database upgrade. Data packages also use data entities. There is no readily configured process to export / import just the data that you need, so you need to handle it entity by entity manually.

    Hi Victor123,

If you don't want to use migration via data entities, you could upgrade your data by LCS.
