SSRS Reports Deployment in Sharepoint Mode

Hi,

I am trying to deploy the SSRS Reports with GP2010. I am running the deployment wizard on our GP2010 server. The resporting services is running on a separate windows 2008 server and is running in sharepoint integrated mode. The sharepoint server is also windows 2008 and is running sharepoint 2010.

In the SSRS Deployment wizard, the final step asks for the Report Server URL. What do i provide here? I tried the SSRS Report Server URL, the Sharepoint Server URL and nothing seems to work. Any guidance here will be a great help.

Thanks!

Sandeep.

Re: SSRS Reports Deployment in Sharepoint Mode

    Hi Rob,

Just to update. Got the sharepoint servers re-built and tried deploying SSRS from the GP server and same error. But this time, as per your suggestion, i just installed the dex shared comps on the sharepoint server and the deployment worked. Still no idea why it wont work from the GP server but for now i can live with this workaround. Thanks for all your help. Thanks to Aaron and Angshu as well.

Re: SSRS Reports Deployment in Sharepoint Mode

    Sandeep,

Thanks for the update.  I'm guessing that the srs deployment wizard fails due to registration issues in this environment (when GP wasn't installed).  You are not required to install GP on the SharePoint server.  The minimum required is to install the DexteritySharedComponents.  These shared components provide the registration functionality that is necessary to run the srs deployment wizard.

    Thanks

    Rob

    Hi Rob,

Yes, did try that out and was able to do it. But i wont have that option on production, as the only way i was able to run it on the sharepoint server, was by installing the GP client (as the SSRS Deployment wizard errors if GP is not found). On prod Sharepoint, the sysadmins will not permit this installation. They are currently re-building the sharepoint servers and i'll see how the install goes once the servers are handed over to me.

    Thanks for you response.

    Sandeep.

    Sandeep,

Could you also try running the srs deployment wizard on your SharePoint server?  We've set up a similar environment and had luck when deploying from that machine.

    Thanks

    Rob

    Anytime Sandeep.

So, here is a nice read on Kerberos and double hop w.r.t RS :

Let me know if you need anything else.

Re: SSRS Reports Deployment in Sharepoint Mode

Hi Angshu - no reason really. It was really because it was not working with Kerberos and i wanted to check if switching to NTLM helped.

I am not aware of the "double hop" issue you mentioned. I'll let my network resource know, so he can investigate. Could you elaborate on this or point me to any specific documentation?

Thanks a bunch for working through this.

    Sandeep.

Hmm... any reason why you want to go to NTLM? I am thinking if you are having the "double hop" issue as you have the WFE and RS on the separate servers.

Re: SSRS Reports Deployment in Sharepoint Mode

That is how the sharepoint server was initially built - using Kerberos auth. But i had asked the security team to switch back to NTLM, and they confirmed that it was done.

So, as of now, the server is using NTLM s what i know.

    Thanks,

    Sandeep.

Okay. Are you using Kerberos for authentication?

Re: SSRS Reports Deployment in Sharepoint Mode

Hi Angshu - wanted to add one more thing.

I was looking to see if the SSRS Deployment Wizard logged the error. I found the logfile, and this is the error being logged -

"PassesUriChecks() - The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized."

The account i am using to run the wizard is a local admin on the GP Server, Reporting Services server as well as Sharepoint server.

    Thanks,

    Sandeep.
