How to get the Sender Name from received email activity? Is Dynamics not saving this value? (I can retrieve the sender email address but not the name)

Please note that no account/contact or lead exists for this record in Dynamics.

    Hi Partner,

If you don't configure SSS for D365, you will be only able to see the sender email address, not the user name.

As I mentioned in my answer, if we configure the SSS, we will get the sender name from email, but this did create a new contact automatically, it is by design.

    Hello Leo,

I think you have mistaken my requirement.

My requirement is to get the "Sender Name" of the email received in Dynamics.

For example if an unknown person Dan Cary <dcary@abc.com> emails us at support@mycompany.com
This is created as an email activity in Dynamics (by server side sync)

Now how do i retrieve the Sender Name "Dan Cary"?
I am finding it very strange that Dynamics is not saving this sender name anywhere in Database? or if it is then there is no way to retrieve it...

(Please note that I don't want new contact to be created automatically using personal settings)

RE: Getting Sender Name from received email activity record?

    Hi Partner,

If you've set up the server-side-synchronization, the external sender will be shown as its username which also shown in outlook.

For example, I used an external email address sent an email  to D365 from outlook, and tracked it into D365, I could see the username in D365 email record.

    OutLook

    D365

To enable this function, you should test%approve your email box in D365 first.

    Go to Advanced Settings->Email Configuration->Mailboxes.

    pastedimage1599446905525v3.png

Open the email box with the same address as your username(used for login D365 like 'xxx@crmxxxx.onmicrosoft.com'), choose "server-side synchronization" for "Incoming,Outgoing,Appointments...".

    pastedimage1599447009712v4.png

    Then Approve the mailbox.

    Apply default email settings.

    And then Test&Enable mailbox.

    pastedimage1599447112658v7.png

Then wait a minute, you will see that all the tests are succeed.

Then go to outlook and track the email you need.

After that, D365 will create a new email record for this message and then you will be able to get the sender name.

And if you want the D365 track all the emails from this sender, you should create a new folder in your outlook Inbox and then create a rule to collect all the emails from this sender into this folder.

Go to D365 system settings first to enable "user folder-level tracking".

Go to D365 personal settings, configure the folder level tracking.

    Best Regards,

    Leo
