Removing an account structure from the Ledger

Question removing an account structure from the Ledger:

Scenario - During data migration, the balance sheet account structure has a department dimension and so we have attached this balance sheet account structure to the Ledger to import all historical transactions with their department dimension details.  Going forward, this dimension is no longer a requirement (will not be allowed).

We setup an account structure BS_Import with a Active to date of 06/30/21 and attached to the Ledger.  Once importing is done, this needs to be removed and the new BS structure (all the same GL's) that does NOT have a department dimension and with a Active from date of 07/01/21 is to be attached.

I am getting the below error when trying to remove the BS_Import structure for their Gold environment where no users have transactions created:

Any thoughts/assistance would be greatly appreciated!

    Hello DCTX,

    Why cant you just adjust the same structure you have created, it should solve the issue.

    What is stopping you to do that?

    It says you have journal with this account structure . you can create another

    Hi DCTX,

    If the dimension is not required anymore, why are you moving the balances including the dimension? Why not simply without the dimension?

    What is your intention with the journal? Remove the dimensions before posting?

    @Andre: all historical dimensions be migrated even if they won't be used in future state.

    @Hossein: so if any journals get posted to a structure, it can never be removed from the Ledger (this was my main concern with this strategy)

    @Ramit: I haven't tested this yet, but if true, this would most likely be the best scenario!

    Hi,

    There must be some unposted documents and that is why you get the error

    Further, look into other ways to modify an existing account structure rather than wholesale swapping out / deleting / replacing them due to the amount of places that likely link to that structure.
