Avalara calculating Tax of Ship To address and Ship to Entity Use code

Hello I have 2 scenarios that I can't get figured out.

We have situations where we will Drop ship or Will call.

If the customer is supposed to pay tax then they need to pay tax to the will call address.  If we update the address on the quote and then activate it, the address is automatically reset the account address.  So then I have a work around where I build an account for each Will Call location so the address doesn't override...BUT if the customer has an entity use code, then the ship to account doesn't and so tax is charged.

I need to be able to use the fields on the quote, not auto pull them from the Accounts.

@DAnny3211 can you update your reply so it's clear that it's made using generative AI, or confirm that it's not?

I agree with Martin, it looks to be made using AI.

Dataverse is a type of storage used by some D365 apps and Power Platform; it's not a D365 product as such. I guess you mean that you're using one of the apps based on former Dynamics CRM, such as Dynamics 365 Sales. When the product is clear, we can move this thread to the right forum and have a more relevant discussion.

Avalara website shows which D365 products they support:

DAnny3211 seems to just copy replies from AI and never really discuss with people, therefore don't expect much from him. If you're interested in AI-generated answers but intreactively, you can talk to a chatbot.

@DAnny3211  I'm very interested in the Avalara Configuration.  Do you have any documentation on how to do that?  We've tried reaching out to their support, but it isn't very supportive!

    Hi EB-06082142-0,

Your scenario involving Avalara tax calculation for Will Call and Drop Ship situations is a common challenge when dealing with address overrides and entity use codes in Dynamics 365.

Here are a few suggestions to help resolve it:

    1. Prevent Address Reset: To avoid the quote address being overwritten by the account address, consider customizing the quote activation logic or using a plugin to preserve the manually entered address.
    2. Entity Use Code Inheritance: Ensure that the Entity Use Code is correctly inherited or manually set on the Ship-To account. You may need to extend the quote form to allow manual entry or mapping from the customer record.
    3. Avalara Configuration: In Avalara, verify that the tax calculation is set to respect the Ship-To address and Entity Use Code from the quote, not just the account. This may require adjusting the integration settings or using custom fields.
    4. Custom Logic: If needed, implement a custom workflow or plugin that copies the correct address and entity use code from the quote to the tax calculation request before submission to Avalara.

Let me know if this helps!

Which D365 product are you using? The D365 brand covers quite a few things, such as Finance and Operations, Business Central or Customer Engagement.
