Is there a way to indicate when an end item should no longer by ordered by Purchase Order?

As we are using MRP to plan finished items and project when we will be out of inventory we want to stop MRP from recommending any additional purchase orders. Is there a way to set something similar to a BOM end effectivity date for an end item?

We currently load a demand forecast for these items and the result is that we get planned purchase orders to retain inventory. We are trying to monitor so that we can cut over from one item to a new item (and adjust the forecasted start date).

If it isn't possible to indicate to stop recommending POs are there other techniques others are using to plan the transition from item to another?

    Hi Marc,

You might consider to create an new coverage group with coverage code 'Manual'

Once created, you can link the new coverage group to the item, and Master Planning will not suggest new orders anymore.

I am to block only finished goods from being recommended (creating planned purchase orders) for items we contract manufacture rather. We are trying to run them to 0 inventory and use demand (sales, forecast, dependant in kitting) to project when we will run out.

I will do some testing with the "Stopped" check box but my understanding is that will simple stop us from executing a purchase order but won't stop MRP from making the recommendations since item coverage controls MRP.  Hopefully, I'm wrong because that could be a simply solution.

    Hi Marc,

Just wanted to understand your requirement, Do you want to Block purchase of raw materials from Finished good or only Finished good do you want to block ?

Do we have any Open purchase orders in transit for the same ?

Have you seen stopped checkbox in Default order settings of Released products ? Just check if that works for you.
