Delete Email or at least Attachment but keep history in Timeline

So I probably misunderstand the Timeline functionality.

I figured it was a history of activity with a record.

However, I found out that if I delete an email message, then the history of me sending that message to the client in the Timeline is also removed.

Why?

More importantly, how do I keep a history of email communications with customers without the attachments AND without having to pay for some add-on to move them for me?

    1.Why?
Although the documentation uses 'activity history' as a description, what is essentially shown is the active record itself, stored in the dataverse, and no additional records are created.
If an email is deleted from the Dataverse, it naturally disappears from the timeline.
In other words, if you want to show active records in the timeline, then they have to be stored in the Dataverse and cannot be deleted.

You can directly delete email attachments without deleting the email message.
